Setting up the student producer station

Follow this step-by-step guide to set up a student producer station (or student rig) in your classroom. The items used in this tutorial include a tablet, MIDI keyboard, microphone, headphones, and a storage case.

Protect your student iPads with a case with or without the keyboard. The cover can be used as a stand as well.

Set up your iRig Keys or a chosen MIDI keyboard.

Lightning Cable to MIDI DIN (7-prong). Be advised: The 7-prong MIDI DIN is extremely delicate. Make sure your students know how to plug it in correctly. You can also assign a few students to be in charge of plugging these in.

Plug in the 7-prong MIDI din to the iRig or MIDI keyboard of choice.

Place the Shure SM58 microphone on the microphone stand.

Shown is the XLR cable.

Plug one side into the microphone.

The other side into the iRig or MIDI keyboard of choice (the iRig serves as an interface).

Complete the student producer station with a pair of headphones or bluetooth speaker.

Storage:

A case like this can be utilized for storage or mobilization. See below for how the student producer station items can live in the case.
